Refined Modern Simplicity

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA- REMODEL

Relocating from San Diego to San Carlos, CA in the San Francisco Bay Area, this professional client reached out to Yoko at a time of transition – a new home, and relocation, which made perfect sense for Yoko and her team to craft a new space in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was in times of personal transition and change that we could crave change in our physical environments. Out with the old, in with the new! We created a sleek, modern space that incorporated some meaningful pieces of original artwork throughout the home. Yoko’s design esthetic was more modern, minimalism with super functionality than what the client had before. To keep the space from feeling overly modern and sterile, we wove in texture, natural elements and a pop of color. The wool rug, textured pillows and throw, walnut table with steel legs, stone coffee tables, and a yellow accent chair gave the space depth and warmth.

Custom furniture was designed to maximize square footage and to take advantage of the large windows and French doors. A small-scaled sectional was created to work with the challenging layout of the living room, providing maximum seating without closing off pathways to the dining area, kitchen, den, and staircase.

A dramatic artwork and statement lighting create a moody vibe in the dining area. The master bedroom has more storage with a storage bed and chests used as night stands. The Mantis table lamps on the night stands made a subtle and refined statement in the bedroom. We commissioned a decorative painter to create a graphic and inspirational wall art in the office, and incorporated the client’s favorite artists’ work including Michael Shemchuk and Ky Anderson throughout the home. At the end of the project, the client told Yoko that he had worked with three designers before, this was the first time he felt that Yoko made the house home.
